I Have Facebook. Do I Really Need a Website?
This is a question I get asked a lot, and it is a valid one. Facebook is free and super easy to use. You can interact directly with customers via Messenger without even having their phone number, and you can accept payments for goods and services. Websites can be difficult and time-consuming to get up and running. They can also be expensive and require regular security updates and monthly maintenance to keep them operating smoothly.
The short answer is that you really should have both a business website and a Facebook page. Facebook is a great way to get leads on potential new clients, and to interact directly with them. However, you are still subject to Facebook’s terms of service and you really don’t have any control over who you reach when you post. Oftentimes, you reach only a fraction of your followers, unless you pay to “promote” your business page.
While you can add a background photo and your company logo to your Facebook page, it is still going to look like and act like Facebook. A website gives you complete and total control to show off your brand. It allows customers to know more about your company, your values, and what makes you stand out from the crowd. Ideally, your website will act as hub for your all of your social media accounts. From there you can post once, and it can go to directly to your clients’ email and all of your social media accounts.
The bottom line: You reach more people when you have more ways for them to reach you. Having a Facebook page is great. Having a website that shows off your brand and personalizes it for your clients is even better!
